This road is called Kingsland Road and must have seen quite a lot of history. I suspect the houses (which all have chimneys, and probably once outside toilets) may have been built in the late 1920's. Life would have been a bit more rural then and simpler, and there are allotments right at the bottom. I have been told that Kingsland Road is named after an area of London that used to be called Kingsland, that area of London doesn't exist anymore. Walk down here fifty years ago in winter and the air would have been smelling of coal fire's, not anymore through but the smell always takes me back. To the right is the gasworks which I'll talk about in another post.
These are the only two original remaining doors left, all others have been replaced with the modern plastic one's.
One of the last remaining window frames, they were all wood with latches. Now they have been replaced by plastic and push buttons. What would have previous residents have seen when looking out years ago?
